I am very pleased to
say that the 18th annual
Collecting The King Memorabilia Show 2010 & The
Ultimate Elvis Presley Auction (put on by HERITAGE AUCTION
GALLERIES) was a HUGE success! Taking place in one of the hottest Augusts in
Memphis I can remember (where temperatures exceeded 100 degrees daily), the
event drew the largest crowd to the show that we have ever had on an “off
year” anniversary. Our show took place in the Venetian Room at the PEABODY
HOTEL, where the only problem we had was the room’s air conditioning, that
was a little too cool at times - unlike the conditions at the hotel where we
used to hold our show, where there was NO air conditioning, causing some of
the dealers there to resort to wearing wet towels around their necks and
purchasing fans to help them cope with the unbearable temperature in the
showroom. If it was over 100 degrees outside, you can imagine what it was
like inside! The dealers at that hotel, who paid for tables and traveling
expenses, deserved better.
Visitors to our show were able to preview several of the items in the
auction that were on display throughout the showroom. Items that included a
letter that Elvis wrote to Anita Wood, one of his belts from the 50’s (which
brought one of the highest prices), one of his rings (another high ticket
item) and several rare records and RCA memorabilia. The auction took place
on Saturday, August 14, beginning at 5 pm. There was food and drink
available to all who attended and the atmosphere was alive with excitement
and anticipation. Special visitors included one of my favorite Chicago
natives and one of Elvis’ closest friends, Joe Esposito and his wife. I also
had a great conversation with Roger Semon, who was in town with Ernst
Jorgensen promoting THE COMPLETE ELVIS PRESLEY RCA MASTERS, the new BMG/RCA
box set. Roger and I hit it off well, both of us being huge fans of Elvis’
music on vinyl. Some of the dealers at our show included Jerry Osborne promoting his new book: Elvis – Like Any Other Soldier, Howard Dvorin (son of Al “Elvis Has Left The Building” Dvorin), Keith Alverson (Elvis Concerts Photographer), Rocky Kruegel (Stardust Records), Ray Jackson (R&J Collectibles) and of course, yours truly, Soundz Good Records. Several Elvis LP collectors attended the show to feast their eyes on the recently purchased LP collection that we had for sale. I am truly grateful to all the collectors who attended and wanted to thank you all for making this one of the best CTK Shows ever! Be sure to check the photo gallery on the web site for pictures from the event! UP NEXT - The
Collecting The King Record & Memorabilia Show 2011 will take place
next August at the Peabody Hotel. It will be our 19th show in
Memphis. There was talk at the end of the show this year that Heritage
Auction Galleries may want to return next year with another auction event.
Keep checking the web site for updates. And if there are any dealers
interested in joining us next year, feel free to contact us and we’ll be
glad to include you. NO SWEAT! Now, take care of business! Robert Alaniz (Soundz Good Records)
