About Us
My wife Carol and I held our first Elvis Presley convention in Memphis,
Tennessee back in August of 1992 at the Ramada Inn on Brooks Road. Our show
has gone through a few name changes throughout the years beginning with the
Elvis For Everyone Convention,
then ELVIS CON
and now the
Collecting The King Show (named after the column I have been
writing in ELVIS - THE
MAGAZINE). We started the
show with the idea of providing a place where Elvis collectors could go to
buy, sell and trade Elvis Presley records & memorabilia with dealers from
around the country and we have been fortunate to have become the longest
running show in Memphis during Elvis Week.
I’ve been an Elvis fan my whole life and an avid
collector of Elvis’ records and memorabilia since 1980. Throughout the
years, my love for Elvis and his music has led me in many directions. In the
early 1990’s, I started my own business
Soundz Good Records
specializing in Elvis records and memorabilia. Soon thereafter, Jerry
Osborne approached me about working as Associate Editor for the fourth
edition of his popular
Presleyana record & memorabilia price guide.
Three editions later, I am once again in the same position for
Presleyana VI
and now preparing updates for the next edition due in 2012.
After a few years of writing a column for a small
Internet Elvis fan site, I was asked by Darwin Lamm, the editor of
ELVIS - THE MAGAZINE, to submit one of my
Collecting The King columns (where I write about the
different aspects of collecting Elvis memorabilia) for publication in his
magazine. In addition, I started writing another column called
Defending The King
where I take a stand as an Elvis Fan in support of Elvis' music
legacy and his image in the 21st Century. Over 50 columns and many years
later, I am proud to be a regular writer and contributor to the magazine.
This year the
Collecting The King Show 2009 moved
to its new location at the luxurious Peabody Hotel in downtown Memphis.
There we plan to continue to provide a place where not only Elvis collectors
can go to find rare records and collectibles, but will be broadening the
show to include dealers of other 50's and 60's rock-n-roll artists as well.
