My wife Carol and I held our first convention in Memphis, Tennessee back in August of 1993 at the Ramada Inn on Brooks Road. It has gone through a few name changes starting out as the Elvis For Everyone Convention and now the Collecting The King Memorabilia Show (named after my column in ELVIS INTERNATIONAL magazine). We started with the idea of providing a place where Elvis collectors could go to buy, sell and trade their Elvis items as well as place for Elvis fans to “hang out”. Over the years, it has become just that.
I’ve been an Elvis fan my whole life and an avid collector of Elvis’ records and memorabilia since 1980. Throughout the years, my love for Elvis and his music has led me in many directions. In the early 1990’s, I started my own business Soundz Good Records in which I specialize in Elvis records and memorabilia. Soon thereafter, Jerry Osborne approached me about working as Associate Editor for the fourth edition of his popular Presleyana record & memorabilia price guide. Three editions later, I am once again in the same position for Presleyana VI. After a few years of writing a column for a small Internet Elvis fan site, I was asked by Darwin Lamm, the editor of ELVIS INTERNATIONAL magazine, to submit one of my Collecting The King columns (where I write about the different aspects of collecting Elvis memorabilia) for publication. Over 40 columns and many years later, I am proud to be a regular writer and contributor to the magazine.
The year 2007 is a
special year for us, because it will be the 14 Year Anniversary of our
memorabilia shows. Throughout the years, we struggled and had our doubts
about the show’s survival. But we hung in there and now, 14 years later, we
are still the most recognized memorabilia show in Memphis during Elvis Week.
Pardon me for boasting, but my wife Carol and I worked long and hard to get
to this point and we’re very proud of our accomplishments.
